Ginger Beer

The dark and stormy has always held a spot on our list of favorite cocktails, but it rose up to number one this summer with the introduction of Gosling’s Ginger Beer. The folks at Gosling’s say they worked on the recipe for a year, “trying to achieve the ideal balance of sweetness and spiciness” to pair with their famous Bermudan Black Seal Rum. They got it right. The beer, actually a nonalcoholic soft drink, is smooth, fresh, and packed with zesty ginger heat. Quite a difference from the too spicy varieties we found in stores before, which packed so much zing they burned our throats, or wimpy ginger-ale.

We began to see 12-ounce cans of Gosling’s bubbly beer at our local wine and liquor shop last fall. Look for it near you. It is also available in a case of 24 cans directly from Gosling’s to keep you on the dark & stormy jag with us all summer.
