Music in My Life
in 100 Words or Less

by Colman Andrews

Guys who wrote "My Blue Heaven", "Don't Blame Me", and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" used to play piano and sing at my parents' parties. Had a folk group in high school called the Up-a-Trio. Auditioned for The New Christy Minstrels. Was nominated for a Grammy in 1975 (Miles Davis liner notes); lost to Sam of Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs. Did publicity at Atlantic Records (Bette Midler, Jackson Browne, et al.). Reviewed rock for Creem. Spent a lot of time in Texas. Used to sing Dave Alvin, Joe Ely, and Hank Williams songs (and originals like "My Baby's Dancin' with Johnny Rodriguez") with a Texas chefs' band. Own a Taylor 100. Plan to learn more than five chords any day now.
